I hope this blog will be a source of encouragement for women seeking to learn how to pursue righteousness and thereby honor and reverence their husbands. I am sure it will be filled with typical journal aspects as well, but I seek to share wisdom and honesty of what I have learned and desire that you might grow further in the knowledge of your Savior.

I am currently reading “Created to be His Helpmate” by Debi Pearl. I have really enjoyed this book, and it has challenged me to truly evaluate the way that I am fulfilling my God given task of being a cheerful supporter. Today I read chapter 13 and will share a few of the thoughts/phrases that caught my attention.

Mrs. Pearl introduces this chapter with Ephesians 5:32-33, though she enjoys quoting the KJV, I will post it in the Message in order to glance at another translation. It states,

“This is a huge mystery, and I don’t pretend to understand it all. What is clearest to me is the way Christ treats the church. And this provides a good picture of how each husband is to treat his wife, loving himself in loving her, and how each wife is to honor her husband.

She continues to elaborate on how women are to seek to be a companion to her husband. She says husbands want “someone to discuss ideas…a playmate, someone with whom to laugh and enjoy life. He wants a buddy with whom to spend time. He wants a lover, someone to care about and someone to care about him. He wants a help meet, someone to share in his work of creation and management. He wants to be a groom, and he wants the Church to be his bride.” How challenging it is to read these sentences and turn them into questions for accountability. Am I someone with whom my husband desires to laugh and enjoy life with? Is Joy one that Shaun wants to share the work of his creation with?

Pearl also describes how marriage is to be a work of sanctification in our relationship with Christ. She states, “Your marriage to your husband is preparing you for your marriage to Christ.” The latter part of the chapter shares a story of how a woman was able to exalt her husband though he was a man who frequented strip clubs and hired prostitutes. This wife encouraged her little son what a great dad he had. Why? Did this man deserve praise? No. Yet, a wife’s job is to honor and reverence her husband as unto the Lord. Pearl says that a wife’s “faith sees beyond the sinning man to the God who created us all and “so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son…” Practicing an attitude of frequent forgiveness and grace towards our husbands reminds us of the continued grace we have received ourselves. When reflecting on the difficulties the wife of an adulterous husband may experience; it should make us thankful for our faithful husband who may forget to take out the trash. How quick we should be to overlook sin!

To conclude: in the above picture, I have posted a link to a delicious soup recipe. It is a great way to bless your husband through providing him with a healthy meal that will enable him to perform his best when he is away from you. [A couple of substitutes: I used 1 1/2 cups of chicken broth and 2 cups of lite vanilla soy milk instead of regular milk; I used frozen corn instead of fresh corn on the cob; i added garlic, italian seasoning, and a few spoonfuls of corn starch to make it creamy] You can serve this with some homemade buttermilk biscuits and have honey nearby for a scrumptious addition! [easy buttermilk biscuit recipe (credit to my uncle tim) 1/3 cup butter, 2 cups self rising flour 3/4 cup of buttermilk 450 for 15 minutes, and ta da.. there is a easy side]
