A friend of mine received an amazon gift card for Christmas and was inquiring about some parenting resources on which to spend it. Here’s a few of my top recommendations (though there are plenty of others to read in addition to these!):

-Growing grateful kids by Susie Larson- a book which really cultivates our attitude as a mother for teaching our children to be joyful and thankful
(http://www.amazon.com/Growing-Grateful-Kids-Appreciate-Extraordinary/dp/0802452825/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357596308&sr=8-1&keywords=growing+grateful+kids there is a kindle version too).

-Rachel Jankovic’s two books (I’ve only read her first one, but…) she is amazing for practical advice on parenting as she has six children and has a really solid biblical theology which is super apparent in her writing. Her second book was just released this month and mine is on order!:

-Anything by Sally Clarkson is good, but I like this book as it appeals to the eternal perspective of parenting and helps us to see the long-term effects of the way we parent in the younger years. She also talks a lot about culture and home-making which is really inspiring:

-Tedd Tripp’s book on discipline helps to clarify the biblical theology of obedience- a real challenge for us to point our children to the gospel:

-The Mahaney Gals’ book which talks about how to juggle being a mom amidst the craziness of life and taking time away to plan intentionally in your parenting: http://www.amazon.com/Shopping-Time-How-All-Overwhelmed/dp/1581349130/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1357596537&sr=1-1&keywords=shopping+for+time

-Noel Piper’s book on making your own traditions in your family: http://www.amazon.com/Treasuring-God-Traditions-euml-Piper/dp/1581348339/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1357596608&sr=1-1&keywords=noel+piper
-I also liked this book on discipline, a helpful perspective on obedience the first time: http://www.amazon.com/Raising-Godly-Tomatoes-Parenting-Occasional/dp/0983484201/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1357596682&sr=1-1&keywords=raising+godly+tomatoes

-Though not directly about parenting your own children, this book is fab if you are considering adopting or want to know a biblical theology of adoption- its certainly related to parenting:

-Nancy Wilson’s book “Praise Her in the Gates” is a great resource for understanding little details about parenting our children that we may not initially consider (i.e. gender differences, education, childbirth)- definitely worth a read to see her opinion. http://www.amazon.com/Praise-Her-Gates-Christian-Motherhood/dp/1885767706/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357644687&sr=8-1&keywords=nancy+wilson+praise+her+in+the+gates
-The Hughes’ also have a great book on cultivating biblical family values without a large budget or a background of raising a Godly Family.

-Also, I really recommend listening to these cds for helping your children (and yourself) memorize scripture- she puts the catechism to music as well as an alphabet of scriptures and loads of other wonderful wholesome goodness: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dpopular&field-keywords=dana+dirksen&rh=n%3A5174%2Ck%3Adana+dirksen

-This is also a great set of music which is just scripture!

That’s a good start anyhow! What parenting books have you enjoyed reading?
